Year 11 Leadership Camp: Day 1
Tuesday, December 11, 2012 @ 7:17 PM
Wow, hey guys! Long time no post. But today I'm here to write about, possibly, one of the best weeks I've had to date. On week November 26th- 30th, I attended year 11 leadership camp at QCCC Mapleton! Which is in the Sunshine Coast Hinterlands and is quite a lovely little place. A bitch to get to though haha.

Anyways, I felt the actual hype for camp about a month prior, so I wasn't that excited when the day came around and was still in disbelief that it was actually happening. Mingy drove me and Nhung to school that morning and I'm pretty sure I had the biggest suitcase haha /strong over-packing. Everyone was filed into the sports centre not long after and we all just chilled and played cards really. Highlight of the morning was definitely when Lily was like to us: "Hey guys, look at Meet! He looks so depressed. Probably missing his curry" HAHAHA. Oh and another highlight was of course giving Mly some 'brownie' action.

Spent the 2 and a half hour bus trip there with Lily as my partner playing cards, listening to music, admiring the trees and at one point joined in with this word food game mly, Lisa and Terry were playing!

Lily made a vlog as we were going up this steep hill and at one point she thought we were there so she yelled out "YES WE'RE HERE" and was full excited but nek minnit... only reached the town of Mapleton. BUT, once we did arrive our initial reactions were "Wtf, we paid $360 to stay here?"

As the camp is usually used as a church camp or something, before every meal we had to say grace, which for this first meal was incredibly weird because like, most of our group is buddhist... so we all just sat there staring at everyone. Lunch was so good! But people like Mly, Anna and Stacey weren't feeling the sausage roll so they came up with ways to try get rid of it eg. pretend to drop it under the table or rip it apart LOL.

After lunch we went back and got changed for our first activity! I was in group 5 and was lucky enough to be with Lisa, Jenny T and Mly :) Our instructor's name was Nathan and Ms Fyfe was our teacher supervisor!

Upon the first meeting of our group, we found our instructor holding up a huge sign which he ended up giving to Lisa, but seeing as that mole is short, that didn't work out well so she gave it to Aisea who went hardout in efforts to attract our other group members haha. He was fully swinging it around and yelling so loudly, it was so funny already.

Our first ever activity was the giant swing! To get there we had to walk through the forest and this crazy suspension bridge! It was fun and scary at the same time because people kept jumping on it and you had to try hard to keep your balance. It was so funny because Orlando was apparently shitting his pants trying to get across thanks to Aisea.

Once we reached the area, Nathan started off by telling us all the 'boring' stuff but kept throwing in the word 'DIE' so that we'd pay attention. By that point I had already deemed him to be cool, hehe. Clark went first because he paid the height out which made everyone go "OOOOOOH" haha! Some other highlights of giant swing were:

The giant swing seems all sweet, but once you get up there only then do you realise the reality of the situation and it was so scary yet exhilarating at that initial drop moment!

Mly the cutie

I swear when he was pulling my legs it was so awkz cus my ass was so out there haha

Headed back across the suspension bridge and up the dirt hill and everyone agreed that it was "everyday leg day" LOL, to go to afternoon tea, where the only exciting thing that happened was when Sandy applied sunscreen to my legs which made her hands brown.

Our meeting place was the 'octagon' and our next activity was archery! I must admit I initially thought it was gay but once we actually did it, it was pretty fun! It was pretty funny because there were numerous occasions were people touched the arrows or their bows before he said so, which meant they lost a turn and the number one offender I'm pretty sure was Aisea! Omg, Aisea was like to me and Mly "Guys, take my advice, don't do what I did" and then Nathan was like "Aisea, I think they know" nek minnit I don't know what we were thinking but me and mly both made faults and we lost a turn and Aisea was like "SEE SIR. I TOLD YOU." Highlights:
Girls on the left, Boys on the right

After archery ended everyone ran back for showers and god damnit this one girl took for freaking ever! But anyway, got ready for dinner and he had butter chicken and rice! It was so damn good. There were too many of our group to sit at one table so throughout camp we had to sit at 2/3 different tables.

After we finished eating our food we decided to muck around a bit, or, have some fun with sabotage. Mly left her drink unattended so someone decided to put salt in it and when she drank it she looked so horrified and gave us all some dirties heheh. Me and Nancy got sick of our dessert so we played scissors paper rock to see who had to eat the icecream with pepper and salt. I owned her so badly LOL.

Then it was time for games night with only some of the dorms! Me and Cindy wore matching shirts wooo, and I think it's safe to say that games night was probably one of the biggest highlights of camp for me simply because it was so fun and it gave you a chance to work as a team with other people :)

Pre-games

Before we actually got into the hall, people were going crazy in the grassy area infront of the dorms, it was such a nice atmosphere! The teams of the night had to have 5 boys and 5 girls so my team mates were: Mly, Nancy, Mikkey, Cindy, Kenny, Steven Vo, Alex Tu, Tuong and this really saddens me to say but, another guy whose name I didn't catch... errr so anyway, the first activity was "Commando Run" where basically your whole team lies down and you have to run over them through the gaps and get back to your initial spot! It was so crazy! Every time Kenny, Steven or Alex ran over us it'd just be like WHOOOOSH. It was a crackup because Nancy had all these dead flies around her head that she'd have to manoeuvre around. It was tiring and fun and we ended up with 2nd place!

The next activity was 'log roll' where your team lies shoulder to shoulder and one person is placed on top of us and the rest of the team have to act as a conveyor belt and roll continuously to get the 'log' to the end. Steven was the log and the moments prior to starting were so funny because well... the person was like lying on crotch areas LOL. Once Mr Bryant said "GO" it was chaos! Everyone just rolled and omg, my hair got stuck, my arm and ear got squished but it was really fun. Me and home slice had to sprint back to our dorms and get hair ties cos we didn't wanna risk getting our hair pulled out. I swear everyone's competitiveness came out and we were all just pumped. Steven almost rolled off once but me and home slice saved him. AND WE CAME FIRSTTTTTTT!

After log roll

The tennis ball and spoon race was next and let's just say our team really sucked at that cos we were the first to get eliminated. Alex and Mikkey dropped the ball HAHAH and we were all like LATERRRRS. The fobs did it incredibly fast and they were so good at it! During the break me and home slice went to the toilet downstairs and it was creepy cos the lights were turned off, and once we finished Steven and Kenny were hiding behind the wall and managed to scare Nancy haha.  The tennis ball and spoon race was between Tevin and Lisa's group and it was so chaotic because teachers were allowed to interfere by chucking balls at the people. Highlights:
  • Tevin's interpretable dance ballet with the tennis ball and spoon
  • John Le's calm 'walk in the park' omg, it looked so funny because everyone around him was just nuts and he was chillin walking through like nobody was there. RESPECT.
  • Peter getting hit in the head HAHAHA omg that was sad.
  • AND THE BIGGEST FREAKING HIGHLIGHT OF ALL WAS MR BRYANT'S COMMENTARY. This one line was enough for me and Cindy to go crazy... "SOMEBODY GET THAT GUY!" LOLLLL shittttt.
  • When Du's shoes flew off. Twice.
Tug of war was next and even though we all knew who was gonna win (FOBS OBVS) we still gave it a try and defeated some people. The music that night was really good man, and when gangnam style was playing the funniest thing happened. MC Bryant came over to us.
Mr Bryant: What do you have to say about this? (I swear he did this to everyone)
Mly: Gangnam style is a bad song
Mr Bryant: Why? Is it cos he's your uncle?
Us: ..........
Mr Bryant to Mly: You kinda look like him

Then there was a bonus round where we had to pass the ball "neck to neck" It was awkward yet funny at the same time because some people resulted to hugging each other in attempts to grab it. Seeing as our team was boys and girls on opposite sides, papa KL came over to us girls to watch and eventually tease us. According to how we stood in the line he'd be like "Ohh so you like him????" and when we were actually passing he'd be like "LOTS OF KISSING OVER HERE!!" Fuark. Mly and Steven's pass at one stage was just. Omg, only my home slice saw it/understands and we seriously just lost ourselves. We didn't gaf about what was going on. All hell broke loose and I just sat there crying, almost making her cry because it was the most hilarious thing we've seen LOL.

By the end of the night I was really happy! I felt closer to the team mates and all the fun we had. Ok, I realise this sounds mighty gay wtf. Papa KL gathered everyone around and we just sat there listening to announcements until some people got themselves owned by KL.
KL: So go back to your dorm, read a book or something if you're bored but don't make a fuss.
Jayden: Sir, who brings books to camp?!
KL: Maybe that's why you can't read Jayden
Everyone: OOOOOOOOOOH
Charleigh: Laughs hardout/loudly
KL: ... and YOU got a merit award?!
Everyone: OOOOOOOOOH

Went for supper with Jt, Truc, Vy and Cindy for a bit then went back to the dorms where I saw Mi with a scrunched up face and she asked me if my room smelt weird... which resulted in us going into dorms and 'sniffing them out' god this makes us sound like retards but the dorms really smelt it was so bad. Everyone got ready for bed and I was just there texting da mole trying to organise something for Truc seeing as it was her birthday the next day, but we couldn't risk bursting into her dorm at 12 and get caught so we just slept. Might I just add, the beds are so freaking shit. Nonetheless, first day of camp was really great!
